Get matched with a shopAn electric drivetrain removes most of what a traditional garage is set up for — no oil, no timing belts, no exhaust — and replaces it with a 400 V or 800 V battery pack that is genuinely dangerous to work near without training. Shops that service EVs properly carry high-voltage safety certification, insulated tooling, and the manufacturer diagnostic access needed to read pack-level fault codes.
The result is a smaller, more specialised market. A dealer service centre will always be an option, but independent specialists frequently repair at module level what a dealer will only replace as a whole assembly — which is where the meaningful cost differences appear.
This directory only lists shops that publicly document EV work. Each entry records what we could verify and when we last checked it, and our methodology page explains exactly what that means.
No. Under the US Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act a manufacturer cannot void your warranty simply because an independent shop performed the work — they would have to show that the work itself caused the failure. Keep the invoices and parts records.
It varies by job. Routine maintenance is often broadly comparable, while high-voltage battery work shows the biggest gap because independents can repair individual modules rather than replacing the entire pack. Our cost guides give the researched ranges for each job.
Look for high-voltage safety training, ASE L3 (Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist), and for bodywork I-CAR certification with the manufacturer-specific approval for aluminium or structural repair. Certifications we could verify are shown on each listing.
No. Listings are compiled independently and ordering is driven by how complete and verifiable a listing is, never by payment.
