What a mobile mechanic can do on the driveway
An EV has no oil to change and few parts that wear, which suits mobile work. The usual jobs:
- Diagnostics with a laptop and the brand's scan software.
- 12V battery replacement. A dead 12V will stop an EV from waking up.
- Tires, rotations, wiper blades and cabin filters.
- Brake inspection and brake fluid.
- Hybrid battery replacement. Some specialists fit a remanufactured pack in under an hour, on site.
What does not travel well: anything that needs a lift for the main battery pack, alignment and body work. A good mobile mechanic will tell you upfront when it has to go to a shop.
Mobile mechanic or the manufacturer's mobile service?
Tesla and Rivian both run their own mobile service, booked through their apps. Tesla decides after a remote diagnosis whether a technician can come to you. For warranty work that is the route to take, because it costs you nothing.
Out of warranty, or on a brand without its own vans, an independent mobile mechanic is usually easier to book. Ask for the price in writing before the visit, and ask whether a call-out fee is added on top.

Can a mobile mechanic work on an electric car?
Yes, for a lot of jobs: diagnostics, the 12V battery, tires, brake checks, filters and wipers. Work on the main battery pack, alignment and body repair need a shop.
Is mobile EV service more expensive?
The parts and labor are usually priced like a shop visit. Some mechanics add a call-out fee, so ask for the full price before the visit.
Does Tesla do mobile service?
Yes. You book through the Tesla app, and Tesla decides after a remote diagnosis whether a mobile technician can do the job at your home or office.
