Tesla Model Y battery replacement cost
Model Y pricing has one complication no other Tesla has: whether your car has a structural pack. It changes the job, and it changes the quote.

Mechanically the Model Y shares most of its drivetrain with the Model 3, and replacement pricing tracks it closely — a little higher, because the packs are slightly larger and the vehicle is heavier to handle.
The exception is the structural pack used on 4680-cell cars built in Texas and Berlin. There the battery is part of the car's structure, with the seats mounted directly to it and the cells bonded in place. That design is excellent for rigidity and terrible for serviceability.

Structural-pack cars carry a labour premium because the seats and interior come out and the pack is bonded rather than bolted.
Why the structural pack matters
On a conventional Model Y the pack unbolts from underneath — a few hours of work, and the pack can be opened afterwards to replace individual modules. On a 4680 structural car the cells are bonded into a casting that forms part of the floor. Removing it means taking out the interior, and opening it for module-level repair is not currently practical outside a handful of specialist workshops.
Two practical consequences:
- Repair options are narrower. The cheap module-repair route that saves thousands on a 2021 Long Range is generally not available.
- Collision damage is more serious. Impacts that would be routine bodywork on a conventional car can compromise the pack, and insurers have written off structural-pack vehicles for damage that looks moderate. Our EV collision repair guide covers this.

Model Y warranty and expected life
Every Model Y variant carries 8 years or 120,000 miles of battery and drive unit coverage, with a 70% minimum capacity guarantee, transferable to later owners.
Degradation follows the Model 3 pattern: a fairly quick 3–5% in the first 20,000 miles, then a long shallow curve settling around 88–92% at 100,000 miles. The Model Y's extra weight and frontal area cost efficiency, not battery life.
Before you accept a pack quote
The same cheaper faults apply as on the Model 3:
- 12 V (or 16 V lithium) battery — $200–$450 and mimics catastrophic failure.
- Pyro-fuse or contactor — $500–$1,500.
- Coolant heater / Superbottle — $700–$1,900, a known cause of charging faults.
- Rear drive unit — $3,000–$6,000, sometimes misread as a battery problem because both produce power limits.
Get a cell-level diagnostic ($100–$300) before authorising anything above it.
